Laffta Fest: Glo unleashes best comedians on Kano

Residents of Kano, the commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria, were last Sunday treated to an uncommon Sallah holiday entertainment as the nation’s biggest comedians stormed the city on the bill of the grandmaster of data, Globacom.

The occasion was the on-going Glo Laffta fest comedy show, which kicked off in the Garden City of Port Harcourt on April 16, and which has been held in 20 other locations across the country, such as Abuja, Enugu, Owerri, Warri, Calabar, Uyo, Ibadan, Benin-City, Ijebu Ode, Lagos, Kaduna and Suleja, among others. Among the comedians who performed at the show were Bright Okpocha (Basketmouth), Bovi Ugboma, Godwin Komone (Gordons), Iruvwe Okiemute (De Don), Francis Agoda (I Go Dye), Patrick Onyeke (Mr. Patrick), and Saed Mohammad (Funky Mallam).

Activities for the evening of fun and entertainment kicked off with Mr. Patrick, followed by De Don, Funky Mallam, Gordons, I Go Dye, Bovi and Basketmouth, in quick hilarious succession, taking the Sallah excitement to a whole new level as they threw jokes upon jokes. Gordons, was particularly exceptional as he commended the residents of the city for upholding peace and unity in Kano, and urged the media to help in projecting the positive image of the city. Besides the comedians, three Nollywood stars, Sani Danja, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Victor Osuagwu, made celebrity guests appearances to excite the audience even further.

The show was anchored by Nollywood divas, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo, with DJ XGee manning the music coonsole. Guests who arrived early enough were also celebrated and given goody bags. Those who correctly answered the quiz about Glo products and services and those who excelled in dance competitions were also rewarded.

The female category of the dance competitions was jointly won by Maryam Muhammad and Ochuwa Oshio while the male category was jointly won by Gideon Emmanuel and Timilehin Oyedemi. The next destination of the tour is Anyigba in Kogi State. Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead include Lokoja, Port Harcourt for the second time, Onitsha, Makurdi and Ajah.
